Pekin Daily Times The Pekin City Council voted to adopt the city’s Fiscal Year 2021-2022 operating and capital improvements budget during Monday’s meeting, and also spent more than an hour debating changes to city garbage collection rules. “This budget was put together taking into consideration the lasting impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, state funding, new legislation, as well as other factors from the community,” Pekin City Manager Mark Rothert said. According to Rothert, the city anticipates General Fund expenditures of over $29.4 million, and capital improvement expenditures of over $37 million.   After a lengthy discussion, the budget ordinance passed by a 4-3 margin. Council members Lloyd Orrick, Rick Hilst, and Dave Nutter cast the dissenting votes.

Pekin Council approves $2M grant agreement for Court Street project

Pekin Daily Times The Pekin City Council unanimously voted to approve an intergovernmental grant agreement with the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for a $2 million Rebuild Illinois Fast Track grant during Monday’s meeting. The grant was awarded to the city to make improvements to Court Street from Veterans Drive to Valle Vista Boulevard. “This grant agreement is necessary for the city to accept the funding and start the project . this summer,” said Pekin City Manager Mark Rothert. The estimated project costs are $2.8 million, Rothert added. The city will be responsible for the initial funding for the entire project and will be reimbursed by DCEO.
