Since 1987. Trading was halted this morning for the second time this week after falling more than 7 . Major professional sports are suspending their seasons, and College Basketball tournaments have been cancelled. In new york city all broadway theaters are being shuttered, and tom hanks last night shocked the world as one of the celebrities to have contracted the virus with his wife, rita wilson. Donald trump took to the oval office to address the nation last night but that speech has already been corrected on at least three major policy announcements by other white house officials since it was delivered. Subsequent comments made earlier today by the president were so riddled with misinformation that journalists and fact checker daniel dale described them as, quote, so thoroughly dishonest, its hard to know which ones to lead with. The New York Times writes this, quote, there were surprising and significant inaccuracies in the speech which Administration Officials and the president had
Leaning no on the resolution. That is not a good field position for the president. To win the fight next week, the president needs to not only convince the undecideds, but also those heading towards a vote against him. Either that or already commits themselves to voting no against them. We will see whether a president ial address next tuesday will change members positions. Well see if nancy pelosi can pull together the votes she needs to get the yes vote. I dont expect the president or pelosi can expect much help from the republican rank and file. The problem is this countrys divided right now between the usual hawks, many of whom unfortunately hate obama and the doves who hate war. That leaves the dangerously little middle. Left and right. Former msnbc David Axelrod and Howard Fineman is director and editor of the huffington post. And recently interviewed secretary of state john kerry. Let me go through the statement, are you surprised the number overnight coming out from Congress Bas
Good morning. Welcome to new day. Chris is off. John berman joins me. Great to be here. We have a lot to talk about. We begin with the Senate Intel Committee set to begin the public hearing on russia in just three hours. Leaders vow a thorough nonpartisan investigation into the russian meddling into the u. S. Election and ties to the Trump Campaign while the house investigation is stalled. And whenever fbi director james comey says anything out loud in public it is a big deal. Overnight, he opened up about partisanship and congressional investigations. This as the first daughter ivanka trump accepts the title of assistant to the president. Raising questions this morning. Plenty to cover on day 70 of the trump presidency. Lets start with sara murray live at the white house. Reporter good morning, john. Recent high. Stocks bounced back from there. And now were just bouncing around. In fact, the main story today is that volatility is clearly back in the market. In fact, if you look at the volatility index it has hit the highest level in about two years. Now, look, i know this looks scary on the screen. But many investors say this is a perfectly normal thing to happen. If you really think about it, we had a stock market rally for eight years now. And the markets are overdue in many metrics for a correction here. And you layer on top of that a very strong jobs report which we had last week that showed wages were increasing, that stoked fears that the fed would actually raise rates faster than anticipated. And that would drive some investment actually out of bonds and into other assets like sorry out of equities and into other assets like bonds. So thats whats going on here. Look, it is anybodys guess as to what happens from here. We could see another drop. I spoke to some investors today
Spoke out a short time ago. Votes today to politicize the intelligence process. And to the house and to selectively released to the public only the majority distorted memo without the full facts. A very sad day i think in the history of this committee as i said to my Committee Colleagues during this hearing, sadly, we can fully expect that the president of the United States will not put the National Interest over his own personal interest. But it is a sad day indeed when that is also true of our own committee. Today this committee voted to put the president s personal interest, perhaps their own political interest above the National Interest in denying themselves even the ability to hear from the department and the fbi. That is a deeply regrettable state of affairs the nunes memo will come out. I want to give you context here. The republican memo was written for the chairman of the committee devin nunes. Shocking facts he just allegedly uncovered about the russian investigation. Facts
