It just got harder for the Democrats who control Bergen and Hudson counties to hold onto their ICE contracts at local jails.
Essex County announced yesterday that now that it has an agreement with Union County to house its inmates, it’s going to end its contract with the federal immigration enforcement agency. The last ICE inmates will leave by the end of August.

MENDHAM TWP. Town officials appointed a former deputy mayor to the town s sewer committee three years after he was forced to resign over a Facebook post that compared immigrants to rabid raccoons.
Township committee members voted 4-1 to appoint Rick Blood to the township s sewer advisory committee comprised of residents and town officials. Amalia Duarte, the township s first and only Democratic committee member, opposed the nomination and recommended having a fresh face on the committee. I had found a really good candidate who seemed to be a good match for this committee and there was a new person who hadn t been involved in our town government before, Duarte said. I was looking for new people to get involved. It s good to have different perspectives and fresh faces.
