Virginia State Police has identified two Maryland residents who were killed in a Richmond Turnpike crash Tuesday afternoon. State police responded to a single-vehicle crash on Route 301 (Richmond Turnpike) at 1:15 p.m. The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2004 Ford Explorer was headed north when it attempted to pass traffic in a no-passing zone, said a state police spokesperson. The driver, attempting to avoid traffic in the southbound lanes, ran off the left side of the highway, struck a tree and overturned.
