(WWBT) - The first small vaccination hub in Henrico County’s west end opened Thursday, bringing in dozens of people for their COVID-19 vaccines. This vaccination event at the Islamic Center of Henrico is not the first vaccination hub in the Richmond/Henrico area, but it is all part of the health district’s plan to create more pop-up locations in local communities. Mass vaccination events will continue at the Richmond Raceway for a period of time, but the health district is now focused on bringing these vaccines to you in your community.

The Virginia Department of Health has confirmed five cases of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) associated with COVID-19 were identified in metro-Richmond. Those health districts include Chickahominy, Chesterfield, and Richmond/Henrico. “Our heartfelt concerns are with these children and their families,” Dr. Tom Franck, Chickahominy Health District director, said. “These cases serve as an important reminder that COVID-19 can affect people of all ages. Even as our vaccination campaign continues to reach more and more people, we cannot let our guard down and we must continue to take precautions to prevent the spread of this infection.”

(WWBT) - The Virginia Department of Health has identified five cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C), a rare disease linked to coronavirus, in the metro-Richmond area. The five cases were identified in the Chickahominy, Chesterfield and Richmond/Henrico health districts between October 2020 and February 18, 2021. As of Monday, Feb. 22, two additional cases were confirmed from the review, and health officials say a few others are being investigated. The exact dates of when the cases were first reported is not being released for privacy reasons.

( Google Maps) Much of the action around Richmond Raceway these days is from folks attending large vaccination events. But a codenamed industrial project planned nearby could soon be a sizable sight to behold. Dallas, Texas-based Hillwood Enterprises is planning a five-story, 2.6-million square-foot warehouse complex on a 247-acre parcel just north of the raceway, according to documents on file with Henrico County. Richmond Raceway owns the land in question, which sits at 5900 and 5901 Richmond Henrico Turnpike. It’s northeast of Azalea Avenue and Wilkinson Road, bisected by the Richmond Henrico Turnpike. The property was most recently assessed by the county at a combined $5.25 million.
