In a meeting of two of the top teams in the NEC, Saint Joe’s left no doubt, winning 13-5. Zach Cole went 20-of-22 at the face-off X, surpassing 400 wins on his career, and Evan Campbell (3G, 2A) led Hawk scoring. Saint Joe’s as decisive from start to finish, moving into sole possession of first place in the NEC at 6-0 (6-3 overall). Every time you play the Bryant Bulldogs, you know you are going to be in for a really physical, highly-contested game. I thought our defense played terrific and executed the game plan well. We’ve dubbed it “Midseason Week” here on InsideLacrosse.com.
And, though that in some ways is silly given the unique nature of 2021, it’s shed light on just how quickly it’s coming to an end (and how many good All-American-caliber players there are).
If you look at this post giving a status update on all of the conferences, you’ll see that things are being decided right in front of our eyes. The Patriot League, which only has four teams going to its postseason, spread across two divisions, could largely be decided after Saturday.
The ACC is unique in that it doesn’t have an automatic qualifier, but with the strength of each team and the competition they face, they’re most likely all going to land in the NCAA Tournament. And, they’ve proven to be some of the most exciting games all season.
