The Chair of the Vintners Federation in Tipperary says he can see no reason why indoor hospitality shouldn’t reopen on July 1st.
Clonmel publican Richie Gleeson is echoing the views of the national Vintners group in calling for pubs and restaurants to be allowed welcome customers indoors from the start of July.
The Government is expected to make a decision on Friday about a timeline for reopening all hospitality, aviation and public events.
Richie Gleeson believes the current trends should allow for the reopening of indoor pubs on July 1st.
“I don’t see why not – things are moving at the right pace. Vaccinations are happening and while not everyone is happy with the rollout it is happening and they are effective.”

Tipperary publicans say they’re ‘lost for words’ to describe the impact COVID-19 restrictions are having on the sector.
A social media campaign is being launched by the Vintners Federation of Ireland and the Licensed Vintners Association to highlight the toll closures have had on owners, staff and musicians.
The hashtag ‘Not Disposable’ campaign will see pubs posting pictures of life pre-pandemic.
Tipperary chairperson of the VFI Richie Gleeson says they’re not expecting to be allowed to reopen immediately but says the lack of information is frustrating.
“It’s like every other industry in the country at the moment and every individual in this country. We want to see a defined plan as to what is going to happen and that’s not happening, it’s not coming our way.”

Latest speculation is that it could be mid-summer before the hospitality sector gets the go-ahead to reopen.

“None of us expected to be open too soon because we’re not in an ideal situation in the country to be open.”
“From day dot we’ve always said that whatever is in the best public health interest we will succumb to that. All we ever looked for was fairness and justifiable opening when that’s possible and not to be segregated as we have been already.”
