Federal drug sentencings announced this week in the Southern District of Alabama include a South Carolina man sentenced to 15 years in prison after being caught with 32 kilograms of cocaine in Baldwin County.
According to the office of Attorney Sean P. Costello, acting U.S. attorney for the district, Frederick Turner, 42, of Bee, S.C., was sentenced by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Kristi DuBose to 120 months on charges of conspiracy to possess and possession with intent to distribute cocaine, and a consecutive 60 months for possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime.

Richard W. Moore, the US. Attorney for the Southern District of Alabama since 2017, announced Monday that he was retiring from federal service effective Friday.
U.S. Attorneys occupy appointed positions that tend to turn over when a Republican president succeeds a Democratic one, or vice versa. Moore’s decision to step down may anticipate such as shift under President Joe Biden, but when his retirement becomes effective on Feb. 26 it will close a career spanning more than 35 years.
