In early summer, a pair of kookaburras moved into a former lorikeet nest near the top of the palm tree outside my back door. They didn’t like the layout of the place much and spent months renovating, leaving all their builder’s rubble on my back deck. But they were finally happy with the penthouse and raised a family there.
I could sit at my dining table and watch one parent keeping an eye on the neighbourhood from high up in next door’s jacaranda, while the other delivered tasty treats to the kids.
