Who is Robert Shwartzman? The 2019 F3 Champion now gunning for the F2 title
14-05-2021 09:30
As mentioned in our prior Formula 2 profile, winning Formula 3 is no mean feat, but it’s a strong title to lay your hands on. Robert Shwartzman, Oscar Piastri’s teammate, will have very fond memories of F3 and the, then, Formula 3 European Championship. The Russian joined the likes of George Russell, Charles Leclerc and Piastri to stand atop the podium come to the final race of the season when he was victorious in 2019. Now, he finds himself gunning for an F2 title after a strong showing in his rookie season.
Gianluca Petecof spun his Campos between Turns 2 and 3, coming to a halt in the gravel trap and thus causing the third red flag of the morning session.
Lirim Zendeli and Roy Nissany caused two further red flags in the afternoon session on a stop-start day to testing in Spain.
Day 2
Verschoor was the man to beat on day two of the test as he continued his good form from the opening round in Bahrain.
The Dutchman finished fifth in the second sprint race and then followed up with a fourth-place in the feature race at the Bahrain International Circuit.
Ralph Boschung was second fastest for Campos, 0.194s off Verschoor, just ahead of Drugovich.
24 April, 2021
ART Grand Prix’s Christian Lundgaard topped both sessions on day one of Formula 2 testing in Spain at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The quickest time of the two came in the morning session, as the Alpine junior beat out UNI-Virtuosi’s Felipe Drugovich by 0.178s.
Hitech Grand Prix pairing Jüri Vips and Liam Lawson also managed spots in the top five on the opening day, ahead of MP Motorsport’s Lirim Zendeli.
Greeted by a hefty layer of fog upon arrival, the teams only sent their drivers out for an initial install lap when the lights went green.
The FIA Formula 2 Championship returns to action tomorrow after an exhilarating opening round in Shakir that saw rookies Liam Lawson and Oscar Piastri claim Sprint Race wins on debut, and Alpine Test Driver Guanyu Zhou take home his first Feature Race victory in masterful style.
Beginning tomorrow the official three-day test at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona will give all 22 drivers an opportunity to put their learnings from the opening round into practice ahead of the upcoming weekend in Monaco on 20 – 22 May.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Running from Friday, 23 April to Sunday, 25 April, the three days of testing at the Circuit de Catalunya-Barcelona will be split into a morning and afternoon session with a total of 18 hours of track time available across the weekend.
