Fears over e-scooters being ridden dangerously in Swindon

TOWN centre shoppers say e-scooters are being ridden dangerously in the town centre. The motorised vehicles have seen a boom in popularity but it is illegal to ride them on public roads and pavements. Despite warnings being issued by the police, people in Swindon say they have had near-misses involving e-scooters – which can hit speeds of up to 30mph. And they say it is only a matter of time before somebody is hurt. Pensioner John Brooks says he and his wife were almost hit by an e-scooter as they entered the Brunel shopping centre The 70-year-old said: “He shot through there, right through the shopping centre.

Woman arrested after police raid in Walcot

A WOMAN was arrested after police raided a property in Walcot.  Officers carried out a warrant in Lennox Drive in the early hours of Tuesday after people in the community raised concerns over drugs.  The woman, who is in her 40s, was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs and has since been released under investigation.  Sergeant Richard Tottle said: “We carried out the warrant in response to concerns from the community that there may have been illegal drug activity taking place on the premises. Those living nearby may have seen armed officers, who were deployed as a precautionary measure.
