Activity, a lot of speculation that has been going on. In the past few moments as we have been talking about, there was a report from cbc that disney and 21st century fox held talks for disney to take over some of foxs various networks. Not a fox news or business channel, but the Cable Networks like fx, for example the two sides. No longer in talks. We definitely saw some stock reaction. Disney spiking and coming back down, bouncing around as people try to figure out what to make of all of this. 21st century fox was actually trading at a 52week low, it had touched that around midday. It obviously turned a layup and is now trading higher at about 6 . Its not just the two individual stocks where we are seeing the reaction, we are seeing it among this Ripple Effect. There is a lot of turmoil within the cable industry, people cutting cords, the rise and surge of streaming services. Perhaps there will be some kind of consolidation. The other player we have to show strengthenedould a combine
Obviously sensitive enough and people would be paying close attention that details count and i think prepared remarks from secretary lieu on that topic would probably be more appropriate. But as i indicated before, we plan for every contingency, so obviously, you know, worstcase scenario, there are things that we will try to do. But i will repeat, i dont think any option is good. Mr. President steven dennis. Mr. President , im wondering if you could talk a little bit about budget process. In the past youve negotiated with, for instance, blue dogs in 2009 and 2010 along with a debt ceiling increase then including a form. You name add fiscal commission. The republicans today are talking about lets have maybe another committee that would work out our differences over the next few weeks. Is that something you could talk about on the side, something that wouldnt necessarily be a concession but something that could be a format for getting a deal done . Heres the thing, steve. I know that Spe
Argue is to get spending in washington under control so that we are are not up their borrowing more and more money all the time and war of our countrys assets and resources can be deployed towards things that would yield a return that will put more people to work that will grow the economy and expand their standard of living in the quality of life for the people across this country. Time is short. The clock is running. Time is wasting. We need to get this done. In the near term except the nine bills that are sitting here in the senate that have been passed by the house that would put a lot of these services and programs that impact people that have been expressed so many times by my colleagues on the other side of the aisle they would put funding back in place for those and secondly lets get together, the president s democrats and republicans here in washington d. C. To talk about not only raising the debt limit but what we are going to do to address the underlying debt. You senators t
A rare live for room call used by majority leader harry reid to bring senators to the floor to talk about the Government Shutdown, now in its eighth day. Also on capitol hill, an immigration rally which about 200 people were involved in. A dozen or so democratic lawmakers were arrested during the immigration rally on capitol hill, including john lewis of georgia and joe crowley of new york. We are going to open our phone lines to hear from you on this eighth day, as the Government Shutdown enters its second week. Can be part of the conversation by phone. The numbers are on your screen. I mentioned the house passing a bill that would create what is called a working group or so called supercommittee, the king at spending issues, including entitlements and other issues. It has passed in the house but not received much favor in the white house. Here is a headline in roll call this evening. Emily pierce said president obama dismissed the house gop posner was idea of creating a supercommitte
Together with photos of the shutdown at different parks. According to the National Park service, 401 National Park sites are closed under this partial Government Shutdown. Over 20,000 furloughed staff. 3,000 staff deemed essential. 715,000 park visitors per day turned away. 450,000 in lost federal revenue per day. 300,000 in lost entrance fees. 150,000 in other lost spending. On the 715,000 visitors turned away, who makes that decision . How and why they are turned away . Guest under the federal shutdown, the Government Shutdown, congress basically has shut down the federal government. And so what that has caused is all the National Parks must close their doors. As you can imagine the National Parks is responsible for the protection of our National Parks and Public Safety. And so when they have to furlough 85 of their workers, they dont have the staff to keep the parks opened and to maintain them, provide the kind of Public Safety and assurances that people visiting the parks can count
