No urgency to vaccinate healthy children Pix for illustration purposes.
TWO local doctors have tossed the idea of administering the Sinovac vaccine in Malaysian children aged 3-17 years old. This is based on the approval by the Chinese regulators of Sinovac Biotech Ltd’s inactivated Covid-19 vaccine, Coronavac, for emergency use in children between 3-17 years of age.
I am much concerned that they are basing their opinions on a press release by the manufacturers to the Chinese state media instead of data from a publication in a peer reviewed scientific journal. This is not how scientists or national regulators judge a vaccine for public use, especially so in a young age group. The interim vaccine data must be meticulously verified and validated.

CNN medical analyst Dr.
Leana Wen expressed concern Friday night that the CDC’s new mask guidance is “too abrupt” a step.
Washington Post Thursday night, Wen brought up her previous criticism of the CDC being “too cautious” before expressing her new concern that the new guidelines about how vaccinated people can shed masks go too far at this point.
Wen even said in a Q&A for CNN.com that she’s concerned “the CDC has just made it less safe for unvaccinated people, including children under 12, to be in public places.”
