The owner of Ace Auto Recycling filed a lawsuit against Nassau County and its top law enforcement officials, claiming investigators seized more than $7.5 million in assets without ever charging him with a crime.
Two Nassau County detectives are under investigation by the state Attorney General’s Police Misconduct Office after a federal judge found they unconstitutionally strip searched a Cambria Heights man in public and then lied about it on the witness stand.
Thieves have been stealing used cooking oil from national chains and family-owned restaurants. Some masquerade as contracted haulers. Some are former employees of those haulers. Some wear phony uniforms and carry forged pickup lists.
School officials said they were notified of the threat, which originated in a chat group Saturday night. The district's security team searched the high school Sunday and had it locked until Monday morning when school reopened.
