Our point is that in health care delivery, boards of directors are larger than the norm, and members often have less day-to-day relevance to the institution, and less operational impact, than boards of companies in other industries. At best, these health care boards help raise money for their institutions (by the way, money is not high in the priority of needs in health care) but at worst, they are out of touch with organizational needs, unfocused on strategic and operational priorities, and inexperienced in governance.
