Several Jersey City Democratic Committee members are calling for party leadership to condemn and cut financial support to Ward C Councilman Richard Boggiano over his refusal to vote on a resolution calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment.
In a letter to Jersey City Democratic Committee Chair Barbara Stamato and Hudson County Democratic Organization Chair Amy DeGise, seven committee members denounced Boggiano’s decision to abstain from last week’s City Council vote, which came in response to the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
Seven members of the Jersey City Democratic Organization, along with the Hudson County Progressive Alliance, are asking two local Dem leaders not to fund the re-election of Ward C Councilman Rich Boggiano after he abstained on a resolution denouncing the January 6th insurrection last week.

The Jersey City Council tackled myriad items during the Jan. 13 virtual meeting, ranging from new medical marijuana taxes to condemning President Donald Trump and his supporters for the Jan. 6 insurrection on Capitol Hill.
A new revenue stream for affordable housing?
The council unanimously introduced an ordinance establishing a 2 percent tax on medical marijuana sales.
One hundred percent of the revenues collected from the tax will be deposited into the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, according to the introductory ordinance.

Jersey City Councilman Richard Boggiano, once the council’s most staunch critic of Mayor Steve Fulop, has joined Fulop’s ticket for the 2021 municipal election.
Boggiano, a retired police detective who prides himself for his independent streak, ran in 2013 and 2017, defeating Fulop-aligned candidates both times.
Fulop said in a statement Monday that he never met another public official quite like Boggiano, the Ward C councilman. He said having Boggiano on his slate will strengthen the ticket for the next election.
