Droves of Westside residents overwhelmed a special meeting Thursday evening to make their voices heard about a planned homeless shelter they say would strip away the area’s only green space and gym for children and families.
The board voted unanimously Thursday to look at solutions that could include assigning outreach workers to all 13 “end-of-the-line” stations that include cities like Azusa, Norwalk, Redondo Beach and Long Beach.
Both the county and city are seeing a surge in cases, which are underreported, but Long Beach officials said the next step will be only to highly recommend masking indoors, rather than mandate it.
Long Beach officials are in negotiations to potentially use Community Hospital in East Long Beach for the city’s winter homeless shelter this year, after the two sites the city had previously used for the temporary shelter became unavailable because of pending development projects.
