But what data are state health officials basing this on?
The only data set the state has released about the sources of infections has been focused on outbreaks defined as two or more cases that can be linked to a common exposure. It shows that sports were the top source of known outbreaks going back to March. In October, the most recent month for which data is publicly available, 33% of the 51 traced outbreaks were connected to sports. But gatherings and parties only account for 6% that’s three outbreaks.
