The body of a 52-year-old Westerly man was found inside a house destroyed by fire Saturday, according to the Westerly police.
The body of Connell Coffey, a resident, was found after the fire at 229 Westerly Bradford Road was put out, Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey said.
Members of the Westerly Police Department and Dunn s Corner Fire Department responded to the fire at 7 p.m., Lacey said. Despite the Fire Department s efforts, the house was a total loss, he said.
Coffey s body was found in the living room, and the fire appears to have started in one of the bedrooms, according to Lacey. The Rhode Island Medical Examiner s Office will do an autopsy to determine the cause of his death.
