CRANSTON, RI A Rhode Island correctional officer died of complications from the coronavirus, the state s Department of Corrections announced Monday. Lt. Russell Freeman served in the women s facility. It is with a heavy heart that I must report the loss of Lt. Russell Freeman, who passed away
early this morning from complications of COVID-19, corrections department Director Patricia Coyne -Fague said in a statement.
Freeman worked with the department for nearly three decades. In 2006, he was promoted to the Special Investigations Unit, before becoming a lieutenant in 2014 and moving to the women s facility.
