Janelle Meoño named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year as 9 Arizona softball players earn all-conference honors

Janelle Meoño was one of nine Arizona softball players to receive Pac-12 honors on Sunday. The UA outfielder was named the Pac-12 Freshman of Year and made the All-Pac-12 First Team after winning the conference’s batting title with a .442 average, 28 points higher than the next hitter.
The speedy slapper is the first Wildcat to be named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year since
Katiyana Mauga in 2014. The redshirt freshman is also the second straight UA player to win the batting title.

Rachel Garcia sent the very next pitch over the left-field wall. The two-run homer broke a scoreless tie and opened the floodgates for No. 2 UCLA in a 6-2 win over No. 8 on Friday at Hillenbrand Stadium.

Dejah Mulipola’s late-inning homer served as a springboard for what was to come next.
The senior catcher drove in four runs in the second game as the No. 8 Wildcats bounced back to beat No. 2 UCLA, 5-1, at Hillenbrand Stadium. UA will go for the four-game split on Saturday at 1 p.m. MST, likely needing a win to have a shot at a top-8 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
“Moving into the second game I think we were a little bit more confident, we trusted who we were, we were being ourselves,” Mulipola said.

Allie Skaggs came through with clutch go-ahead hits as the No. 7 Wildcats rallied to beat No. 12 Oregon 4-3 in the third game of the four-game series after dropping the first two.
Scupin drove in two runs in the sixth with a long single to left, an inning after Skaggs pinch hit for a struggling
Reyna Carranco and punched a two-run homer to right to put Arizona up 2-1.
