Social workers in the area, which took the brunt of Europe’s first wave of Covid-19, stepped in to create networks of local people to provide supplies and prevent isolation. Community members, postal workers and police officers joined the networks, delivering food and medicines, collecting pensions and providing people with a new sense of belonging.
