The Humboldt County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to pass Sheriff William Honsal's proclamation of emergency for the landslide affecting the Centerville area in Ferndale.
This is not the first time the board voted 4 to 1, with 5th District Supervisor Steve Madrone dissenting, to partially lift the hiring freeze for the sheriff’s office, though these positions were already funded in the county’s budget. On Jan. 30, the board approved a partial thaw of the hiring freeze for the office to hire 25 additional employees. Madrone dissented on that vote as well.
The county, currently facing a $12.4 million deficit, approved $34,143 for the halls this fiscal year. However, board members expressed frustration with the buildings’ older, less-efficient energy systems.
