The court order comes against the backdrop of the freebies versus welfare scheme debate that has sparked a political slugfest between the BJP and the opposition-ruled states.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday cautioned people against what he called a "revdi (sweet) culture" under which votes were sought by promising freebies and said this could be "very dangerous" for development of the country.
In a pointed attack seemingly directed at PM Modi, Arvind Kejriwal said, "When you forgive thousands of crores in loans for your friends, that is free revdi. When you go for foreign trips, and seek contracts for your friends, that is free revdi."
