ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Shaukat Tarin held a meeting with SAPM on Food Security Jamshed Iqbal Cheema on Farm Gate Pricing at the Finance Division on Tuesday.
SAPM on Revenue Dr Waqar Masood, the secretary, Finance Division, and the additional secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, also attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the existing farm gate price mechanism and the problems faced by the farmers in transporting the perishable commodities, particularly vegetables and fruits, to the nearest market or first point of sale.
The role of middleman was discussed during the meeting, who makes money at the expense of farmers particularly with small and marginal landholdings.

ISLAMABAD: Finance and Revenue Minister Shaukat Tarin on Tuesday highlighted the importance of curtailing dominance of middlemen effectively, which he said would enable the growers to get 35 to 40pc higher returns of their agricultural produce.
Mr Tarin was speaking at a meeting with Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Food Security Jamshed Iqbal Cheema, according to a press statement issued by the Finance Ministry.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Revenue Dr Waqar Masood, Secretary Finance Division and Additional Secretary, Ministry of National Food Security and Research also participated in the meeting.

ISLAMABAD: The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) on Monday directed provincial government departments to keep the prices of basic commodities in check and import four million tonnes of wheat for building buffer stock.
The NPMC at a meeting, chaired by Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin, declared that cartelisation would not be tolerated at any cost. Stern action should be taken by the provincial administrations and departments concerned to keep the prices of basic commodities in check.
The direction came from the finance minister when the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) presented findings of an inquiry into the poultry sector at the meeting. All those responsible for undue profiteering or hoarding would be taken to task, the minister said.

The National Price Monitoring Committee (NPMC) on Monday observed that major driver behind increase in prices of items of daily use was massive international price hike due to ongoing COVID-19 crisis, according to a statement issued by the Finance Ministry.
The committee meeting was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin. Minister for National Food Security and Research Syed Fakhar Imam; Adviser on Commerce Abdul Razak Dawood; Special Assistant on Finance and Revenue Dr Waqar Masood, secretaries, chief secretaries, and senior officers of various ministries participated in the meeting.

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Finance Shaukat Tarin has directed the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) to ensure data collection for prevailing prices of different commodities from Ramazan Saasta/Saulahat Bazaar for wide coverage.
This directive has created an awkward situation for the PBS because it was mandated to collect the prices under defined methodology finalised through rebasing exercise and any change in methodology would distort the whole data of collection process for calculating inflation figures.
