Troubled John Bisseker Secondary School in East London is getting much-needed repairs after a prolonged strike, but it is in for a much bigger headache.
The lights came back on across large parts of East London at just after 2pm on Tuesday after an unprecedented 40-hour-long power outage that crippled industry, left residents in the dark, and cost untold amounts in lost revenue, production and spoilt food.But minutes after the power was restored, some residents complained it went off immediately, apparently due a combination of scheduled load-shedding and other unscheduled faults.
Instead of preparing for their midyear exams, more than 1,000 pupils at an East London high school have been sitting at home for 10 days in protest against the school’s crumbling infrastructure and staff shortages.
Classes came to a standstill at an East London high school on Monday, as pupils, teachers, parents and school governing body members staged a protest outside the premises.
