Phillip Pretty Brings More Fine Dining to Long Beach With Heritage 2 0

Courtesy of Heritage Chef Phil Pretty is ready to open his second Long Beach restaurant this week. The singularly-named Heritage will operate on one side of the existing Heritage Sandwich Shop building, a remodeled Craftsman he runs with his sister Lauren Pretty during the day, with plans to format a more upscale fine dining menu at night. For the opening, Pretty tells Eater that his menu will feature mostly small plates that rotate from Pasture bird poultry to scallops and smoked pork belly with pickled cherries and cheese polenta, plus desserts like a sweet corn pavlova. The Prettys had initially planned to operate the evening-only version of Heritage as a tasting menu, but COVID-19 made them shift to a la carte for the time being. That said, Pretty says his sourcing will remain the same, including Santa Monica farmers market produce, local Long Beach-sourced seafood, and cheese from Oh La Vache on Fourth Street. Chicago-based Clayco has announced that the firm is expanding its operations and establishing a West Coast regional office in Culver City. Bluff Heights residents trying to block overtly sexual mural from being painted on cannabis dispensary • Long Beach Post News

Residents in the historic Bluff Heights neighborhood are fighting the installation of a vibrant, “overtly sexual” mural on the side of The Lift cannabis dispensary that sits on the edge of the neighborhood, but city officials say that the content of the mural is protected by the First Amendment. - ADVERTISEMENT - Two murals, a lavender-dominant floral display, and a green-dominant piece showing a woman with a flower and butterfly have been proposed to be painted on The Lift dispensary located at the corner of Fourth Street and Temple Avenue. Michael Forrest, a representative for The Lift said the colors were chosen to represent gender equality. Purple and green have historically been used in women suffrage movements and Forrest said the company wants to stand for something and be a welcoming part of the environment for everyone.
