pandemic. so many people took early retirement packages or early outs. look at the numbers here, these are the latest from flight aware. 3,000 flights canceled in total from thursday to monday. the worst day being friday, where 1263 flights were canceled according to flight aware. that s when the weather was bad on the east coast. a lot more flights delayed. some 26,000 in total. again, friday, the worst day, when the weather was really bad. this all means that about 3% of flights in the u.s. over the memorial day travel period were canceled. about 1 in 5, 20%, were delayed. when so many people are coming back to travel, the latest numbers from the tsa, this brings the five-day total to more than 13 million people traveling by air when you average that all out, about 93% of pre-pandemic figures is what we saw compared back to 2019.
republican. there s 22 billion for the border. 18 for the wall, the rest is hiring more i.c.e. people and detaining illegal aliens. trump has been known to get projects done on time and under budget. hopefully he can do that as commander in chief. he is triangulating. i also like stuff about modernizing the federal workforce. give bonus for well performing workers to be able to fire for performing workers and make sure they don t have these lavish retirement packages. it s pretty ridiculous. other than that, your typical loaded budget. juan: i don t get this. you gloss over the headline. jesse: what is the headline? juan: republican oh hypocrisy. if obama had put this forward, you would ve said there goes that big spending
with retirement packages, so i think that there is a lot of wrangling going on with veterans and the defense community, but typically this is a constituency that supports republicans. i wouldn t really expect that to change. i want to switch gears because the president is launching a new effort called my brother s keeper. big businesses are preponderanced to support this, while obama care has really gotten a lot of scrutiny. could this initiative actually be his legacy issue? great, great question, and i think it will be. i think that this issue particularly for african-american men is something that the president has already made a huge difference on and is something that he is going to continue to make a difference on going forward even after he is president. i think that it s a huge piece of a legacy work that has already really begun, but is now being formalized that we re going to see played out for years to come even after the president leaves office. you talk about it bein
don t have a big problem with that. i do think that we re being a little naive when we try to blame everything and put all of the problems of the cities on the backs of the public unions. there are other issues. but that s the single biggest, i would say, wouldn t you, sabrina? yeah. i think it clearly these numbers suggest that and one of the big things we re forgetting the other side of the equation which are the taxpayers. tax payers are supporting this and they re not seeing this kind of benefits in their own retirement packages. i think we need to remember as much as we want to help the public sector employees there s other hard working americans who also want to benefit from their hard work. john, taxation without representation, people want to have this thing cleaned up. yeah. they want to and i think we ve got to say maybe a few city bankruptcies would be beautiful. remember the government spending is the big barrier to economic growth because it s government taking fro
their lifetime earnings are lower then you talk about retirement in security because think don t have the same retirement packages. it is a huge problem and i have spoken with douglas aekon an econ bhoist says we might be look at a generation of people who might not be getting the job promotions they might have. i want to commend lz. he might even agree with rand paul a bit. there could be a culture of dependency. if you are drawing on getting government checks then what is your incentive to get into the work force. i think that s a very valuable and important point of conversation and debate and congress is having it when it comes to food stamps and unemployment insurance. we will see how that pans out. we also are talking about raising the minimum wage would help. that s one of the things. all right, we will leave it there. lz, you will have to blog as to whether you think you do agree with rand paul.
