BMC has inspected only 5% of shops across the city and has found 80 % of them putting Marathi signboards. So the organization only served a notice and gave time to shops.
The government had set May 31 deadline for the same, failing which prosecution will be initiated. The BMC had subsequently extended the deadline to September 30.
The plea challenges the rule and the Bombay High Court order upholding it, contending that the cosmopolitan nature of the city of Mumbai has been ignored.
