USPS botched tens of thousands of deliveries at hub handling Pittsylvania County, Danville mail

GREENSBORO, N.C. — A recent internal U.S. Postal Service audit in the Greensboro District, which serves as the primary hub for the handling of mail in Pittsylvania County and Danville, found tens of thousands of botched deliveries between May and September of 2020. Postal employees at one facility under the Greensboro District Manager Russell Gardner routinely marked packages as delivered, when in reality, they were sitting at the USPS station untouched. Delivery unit employees improperly scanned packages at the station rather than at the delivery point, auditors reported. Auditors recorded 41,548 botched deliveries in just a five-month span in 2020. We further identified 4,899 packages scanned at the delivery unit that had invalid route or employee information, USPS Delivery and Retail Response Team Director Sean Balduff said.
