1958: Worn out DPW boss recommends Marine Corps flamethrowers to melt snow in frozen Syracuse

This photo gives an idea of how deep the snow was in the Syracuse-area in February 1958. Finding it easier to tunnel than to clear huge drifts, workers made this approach to the Fairmount School Annex on Mansfield Drive. Curtis Carpenter, Christopher Young, and Jeffrey Campbell stand at the entrance to the tunnel which connects two buildings of the annex. Syracuse Post-StandardSyracuse Post-Standard
