weaponizing its attack line on donald trump, but he appeared to have given them plenty of ammunition. let s get the latest from rich edson in washington. rich? good afternoon, neil. much of the respect presidential field has criticized the department of justice over this. they re also taking issue with the former president s alleged behavior. his campaign says it raised roughly $2 million last night at a fund raiser in bedminster, new jersey just hours after the former president appeared at his arraignment in a courthouse in miami. as his federal indictment dominates the gop race for president. i don t think that most republicans support the conduct that is detailed in that indictment. it s reckless, it s harmful to the american national security and it doesn t show the judgment that you need to be an effective president during difficult times. former vice president mike pence told the wall street journal, these are very serious allegations and i can t defend what is
food prices too have gone up. nothing s being done about it. it s going to kill the people, these diesel prices. they have no i have no choice but to fill up my tank. there s no other choice. definitely too much. and it has to change, hopefully soon. neil: it is the story of the week, and right now it is hitting americans hard. i m talking about inflation, and it is still out of control. here s how bad things are getting. we re grateful if the rise isn t as dramatic as we had experienced in just the prior month. that is the state of things now with prices spiking at near 40-year highs. the last time we saw that is when jimmy carter was president. concerns that we re seeing the same thing roll out now and rolling around hoping for relief. good luck on that front. but kelly o grady on how customers and you are feeling. kelly. reporter: hi, neil. well, week we saw new inflation data with april s consumer price index out. the 8.3% year-over-year number was worse than ex
neil: all right. we had another inflation report today that showed the wholesale level, the level before it gets to you and me that continues declining prices. what we ve seen on the retail front is 12 consecutive months of the inflation rate and the increase in the rate going down. in fact, in the latest numbers, the lowest it s been in two years. jared bernstein joins us right now. kind enough to join us. i should probably call you mr. chairman now, jared. thank you. you can call me jared. neil: i m go with chairman. let me ask you about that. as you know, you have the republican candidates running around saying inflation is still a problem. things are costing more than people are making. so you can put all of the spin on this you wants, inflation is still a problem. what do you say? our work is not done when it comes to helping households with this challenge. the amount of progress that we made is pretty remarkable. you just took us through it.
