What help available for struggling hospitality businesses?

IT would have been one of the busiest days of the year for the region’s hospitality industry but the decision to leave the North East in Tier 3 means that normally packed pubs and bars are behind locked doors. ‘Black eye Friday’ is one of the busiest nights out of the year for city centre bars and pubs. The night falls on the last Friday before Christmas, which has traditionally been the most popular choice of Christmas night out. It got its name thanks to the violence which sometimes flares after people consume too much alcohol. But Health Secretary Matt Hancock confirmed on Thursday morning that Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, County Durham, and all of Teesside would not be allowed to relax restrictions yet.
