Impassioned pleas by local councillors failed to stop controversial plans for a new McDonald’s in Rhyl after they were approved by the slimmest of margins. Denbighshire Council’s planning committee voted 8-7 in favour of the plans to build a new McDonald’s restaurant on the site of the former Crown Bard pub on Ffordd Derwen in the town. It will bring 65 full-time equivalent jobs and breathes new life into a site left vacant for more than four years. The proposals were not universally welcomed, despite officers recommending approval of the scheme. There have been flooding concerns, with the site being in a C1 flood zone, worries about increased traffic problems on the A525 and tributary roads, litter, the effects on obesity and the fate of mature trees and wildlife.

A FAST food franchise has proposed a series of improvements to one of its restaurants in a Bucks town. McDonald’s Restaurants Ltd seeks from Bucks Council permission for a series of alterations to the McDonald’s on Dovecot Road in High Wycombe. The plans include the reconfiguration of the drive-thru lane and car park. This will mean relocating a bicycle shelter to enable “side-by-side ordering”. It will also mean installing a new “island” for signage and a new customer order display to match an existing one.

Work on new McDonalds and Starbucks branches planned for the edge of Downham is being carried out in breach of planning conditions, it was claimed last night.
A town council meeting also heard police have been called to the Bexwell Road site because of an issue relating to trees which are set to be removed.
But the scheme was back on the agenda at Tuesdayâs town council meeting after members were asked for their views on an application to withdraw one of the conditions of the current consent.
