Researchers from George Mason University have demonstrated that an over-the-counter herbal remedy can inhibit the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, as well as its variants and other respiratory viruses.
Could an over-the-counter health shot help fight COVID-19? George Mason University researchers think it just might. Cell and Bioscience recently highlighted research led by Yuntao Wu and Ramin Hakami in which they examined the potential anti-coronavirus activities of an over-the-counter drink called Respiratory Detox Shot (RDS).
Traditional herbal medicine Respiratory Detox Shot (RDS) inhibits SARS-CoV, SARS-CoV-2 and Influenza A infection in vitro
As researchers continue to search for effective antivirals to counter the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, a new study presents the potential utility of a herbal decoction called Respiratory Detox Shot (RDS).
The study, presented as a preprint in the
bioRxiv server, reports the inhibition of target cells by pseudoviruses expressing the spike protein of either SARS-CoV (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus) or SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2) and by wild-type SARS-CoV-2. It was also found to prevent the early infectious process. It could, additionally, prevent the entry of the influenza A virus into the host cell.
