Santos, APPEA warn of high gas prices after NSW s exploration ban widened

Jul 21, 2021 – 1.34pm Save Share New bans on onshore gas development in NSW will lock in the sort of high gas prices that manufacturers have been complaining about in recent weeks and make the state more reliant on imported LNG, according to gas producers. Under a policy released by NSW Minister for Resources John Barilaro on Wednesday, the land available for gas exploration in the state has been cut by 77 per cent. Large areas around Moree to the north and Coonamble and Gilgandra towards the central-west will become no-go zones for gas development. Coal seam gas projects in NSW have been the focus of ongoing protests on environmental grounds.
