Lycoming County commissioners agreed Tuesday to extend the contract for MCM Consulting Group Inc. for its work with the emergency communications system.
The commissioners had tabled action on the issue last week after questions arose about the company’s failure to carry out all obligations specified in the $440,000 contract.
Commissioner Rick Mirabito remained steadfast in his previous stance that the county should attempt to at least pursue a partial refund from MCM for not seeking Requests for Proposals from companies pursuing the work.
Motorola ended up being hired and reportedly helped save the county money.
“The Motorola contract is not the problem,” Mirabito said. “They (MCM) acknowledged they didn’t do an RFP. I think we should do our own separate analysis and see how much work wasn’t done.”

UF IFAS Extension and the Escambia County Natural Resources Department will hold a drive-through tree giveaway from 9 to 11 a.m., or until supplies last, on Saturday, January 23.
The event will be held at the Escambia County 4-H Camp and Livestock Facility located at 5701 Highway 99 in Molino. The giveaway begins promptly at 9 a.m., and attendees will need to follow instructions from volunteers related to entry and route. To keep everyone healthy, attendees will be asked to stay in their vehicles and wear a mask when approached by volunteers. Each vehicle will receive two free native 1 gallon trees. Species available include overcup oak, willow oak, sweetgum and Savannah holly.
