VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) Canadian Coast Guard officials said Sunday a fire that was burning in several containers aboard a cargo ship off the coast of British Columbia appeared to be out.

U S Coast Guard ends 40-day response to Munger T Ball near Florida Keys

The U.S. Coast Guard Sector Key West Incident Management Team recently ended its 40-day coordinated response effort to mitigate the pollution threat from the tanker Munger T. Ball wreck, 70 miles northwest of Key West. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the Coast Guard monitored the wreck site for years. In 2019, following an uptick in confirmed sheening in the area, Coast Guard Capt. Adam Chamie, the federal on-scene coordinator, determined the site posed a potential threat to the environment. A response team was established, comprised of members from the Coast Guard’s National Strike Force, the District 7 Response Advisory Team, the Office Environmental Management and Salvage Engineering Response Team, the Navy Supervisor of Salvage and Diving, NOAA, the Maritime Administration, the lead contractor Resolve Marine Group, more than 15 subcontractors, along with the offshore supply vessel the Shelia Bordelon.

MPCA investigating Enbridge Line 3 nontoxic spill - - The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is investigating a drilling fluid spill that occurred on the Willow River in Aitkin County at one of Enbridge s construction sites for its new Line 3 oil pipeline. Drilling was halted after the nontoxic spill was discovered early July 6 and containment and cleanup activities were started, MPCA spokeswoman Cori Rude-Young said Monday. The MPCA has been in regular communication with the on-site, independent environmental monitors and Enbridge Energy, and we have inspected the site cleanup, she said.
