In 2017, wellness tourism was estimated to be a $639 billion global market, growing more than twice as fast as general tourism, according to the US-based Global Wellness Institute [GWI]. The coronavirus pandemic is expected to fuel this travel trend – which GWI defines as “travel associated with the pursuit of maintaining or enhancing one’s personal wellbeing”. “Now more than ever, we’re all really aware of our health, and taking care of it,” says Lippiatt.
