FALL RIVER An 18-year-old Fall River man arraigned on weapons charges was ordered held without bail Monday pending a dangerousness hearing in connection with a double homicide last week in the Corky Row section of the city.
Jeremy Holmes, of Fall River, will be back in court for the dangerousness hearing on Thursday. He was arrested Friday night about 8:15 p.m. on charges of carrying an illegal firearm, carrying a loaded illegal firearm and unlawful possession of a large capacity firearm.
Last Monday, 14-year-old Miguel Sanjurjo and 29-year-old Jovaughn Antonio Mills were shot and killed near Griffin Park at 4:20 p.m. A 19-year-old man whom police have not identified suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and is expected to recover.
“I’m basically trying to help people heal,” said Mary Zema.
Zema, a resident of Warwick, R.I., retired from the Fall River Public Schools system in 2019 after 33 years teaching music at all different grade levels. Since then, she’s been busy writing and recording songs in her home studio, performing most of the instrumentals and vocals herself.
“I’ve been doing it nonstop for a year and a half, in my basement for a few hours every day,” she said. She aims to release her album in late June, with some songs already available on her Facebook and Soundcloud.
