Queen’s residences are currently facing one of the worst years for malicious fire alarm pulling to date, with this year on track to beat figures set in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

Described as “pivotal” by AMS President Zaid Kasim, the AMS held its first Assembly of the summer on May 20.
AMS Assembly was slated to consider various issues on the agenda, including standard executive reports, the Board of Director’s report, the student senate caucus chair report, and other statements by students.
The start of Assembly was postponed by an hour due to technical errors and eventually convened at 7:00 p.m. with a motion moved to discuss

As voting closed Wednesday night, Jared Fernyc was elected the Residence Society’s (ResSoc) incoming Vice-President of Residential Affairs (VPRA).
Fernyc ran uncontested and earned a 92.6 per cent vote of confidence, though only 5.5 per cent of eligible voters cast a ballot in the election.

The Journal, Fernyc thanked the electoral committee for the confidence they expressed in him to fulfil this role in ResSoc.

“I’m looking forward to the positive change the incoming executives will be able to make for the incoming students next year,” Fernyc said.
As the ResSoc executive elections come to an end, Fernyc said he’s ready to tackle the most pertinent issues facing first-year students.
The face masks feature a piece of Indigenous artwork, and the Indigenous artists who design them receive royalties every time a mask is purchased.
“I decided to use Indigenous artists because of the history of Indspire being Indigenous, and everything targeted towards helping Indigenous students,” Gill said.
The Residence Society (ResSoc) purchased a Kanata face mask for all residence student staff members. The order came to just under 100 masks at a total cost of $1,850. The masks are being distributed throughout the coming weeks.
“I’m grateful to ResSoc […] They contributed a large amount that’s [going to] help another Indigenous student go to University,” Gill said.

The Residence Society (ResSoc) held an open forum Sunday night on Zoom where Jared Fernyc, the sole candidate running for the position of Vice-President of Residential Affairs (VPRA), highlighted his platform and plans to build on current ResSoc programming.
Fernyc used his opening statement to provide details about his platform. Focusing on four key pillars, he intends to work with house president staff to craft and implement inclusive programs, increase the visibility of first-year students with active marketing, expand the scope of events offered by ResSoc through collaboration with current staff, and support the staff through consistent one-on-one meetings.
