Springfield United s rapid growth chasing higher level goals

Dedicated club president Scott Harding answered: I said as big as we can . The club built on strong family foundations has grown from 28 teams and 350 players in 2016 to more than 60 sides and 800 players preparing for 2021 Football Brisbane competitions. That includes a Capital League 2 men s side, City League teams, three women s combinations and a healthy junior representation. Even with COVID challenges last year, the Springfield club still fielded more than 50 sides, including 27 junior teams. Harding was delighted to see the expansion continue at the club s impressive new base at the Springfield Central Sports Complex.

With a new season starting next month, key club people are working hard to entice newcomers for the years ahead. Club president Matt George and vice president Andrew Boyle were among the active officials at the latest Ipswich Hockey Open Day at Raceview. They welcomed newcomers to the sport and players keen to sign up for the 2021 season starting on March 12. While working to field a number of teams across the grades, Bellbowrie is also holding separate introductory sessions at the Bellbowrie community sports complex starting on Wednesday.

Norths are gearing up for what club president Jason Brennan hopes is a more normal season following last year s COVID impacts. But after the Tigers had a productive season making the Volunteers Cup grand final involving Toowoomba sides, the annual player poaching has started. Norths have lost some key players already to Souths Tigers in the Toowoomba competition. However, with former Toowoomba Clydedales premiership-winning coach Gary Lawrence on board, Brennan is keen to build on the club s positive progress in last year s restructured A-Grade competition.
