Public health experts say there are no epidemiological reasons to extend the lockdown uniformly across Tamil Nadu to control the Covid-19 pandemic. The number of active cases continued to dip for the seventh consecutive day on Thursday in Tamil Nadu. With 2,80,426 people fighting Covid-19, TN had almost 10% fewer active infections than last week. The dip in daily fresh infections and daily positivity rate continued in Puducherry on Thursday, with the Union territory recording 815 fresh cases. Fear and lack of awareness are driving away tribal people from getting vaccinated for Covid-19. Chennai, May 12 : HLL Biotech at Chengalpet in Tamil Nadu, a sprawling 100-acre campus located 55 km from Chennai, is equipped with all modern facilities and has state-of-the-art technology to manufacture vaccines but was not used during the first wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.
There were not many takers to use the Public Sector Undertaking facility even after it floated a tender for its Integrated Vaccine Complex (IVC) to manufacture vaccines.
HLL Biotech has an annual capacity of 585 million vaccine doses and was intended to make vaccines under the Universal Immunisation Programme (UIP) of the Indian Government.
