LEXINGTON, Ky. (April 7, 2021) The University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Science kicks off its annual Spring Research Days today, beginning with a keynote panel featuring acclaimed historian and author John M. Barry at 1 p.m. His 2004 book “The Great Influenza: The Story of the Deadliest Pandemic in History” was a New York Times bestseller and named by the National Academies of Science as the year’s outstanding book on science or medicine. Barry’s award-winning work has led him into public health policymaking at the international level. The only non-scientist on a federal government Infectious Disease Board of Experts, he served as an advisor to the Bush and Obama White Houses on pandemic preparedness and response and was on the team that recommended public health measures to mitigate a pandemic.
