If i use the word twilight to suggest that network news, as we have known it, is on its way out and as something new is emerging. Whether what is new will satisfy the urgent needs of our democracy cannot be noted at this time. Lets hope that it will. Without a free and occasionally rambunctious media, we will not be living in an open society. The free press and an open society are intimately linked, one dependent on the other. Network news if network news is in its twilight, then perhaps our democracy is facing a turning point as well. I asked an old colleague and a friend, ted koppel, to discuss the changes in network news and what those changes might mean for our society. Ted is known best for his 25 years of anchor and host of nightline, but he has also been a foreign correspondent, a war correspondent, and author, and he has covered Many P
Ones of the food and Drug Administration while negotiations continue. Washington, aurnal talked with border reporter to find out what was going on. Lets begin with what we heard. What do you have to say . I do not expect a clean one to be brought to the house floor. Will with the there are. Senate republicans are not going to provide the votes that would be necessary to get it through the senate. Given all the speculation over the last week that this was something he would do, it is possible he felt that he needed to make it clear that he will do something on the debt and the deficit. Lets show our viewers what he had to say when he was on abc this week. I told the president that there is no way that theyre going to pass. The president is risking default by not having a conversation with us. We are not going down that path. Time to deal with americas problems. How can you do nothing about the underlying problem . I am amazed that after this conference passed unanimously, the senate has unanimously, and the president signed instructions that our military and civilian contractors should be held harmless in this entire shutdown that after a week we are still waiting for them to implement the law that was put to place a week ago. They are allowing us to have more and more pain specifically in the military. All of us agreed together that they would be held harmless entirely. It is very frustrating that we even have to pass something for them to practice their religious faith. It is essential part of their life. For the administration to pull back and say there are places where you will not have worship on a weekend is absolutely unacceptable. The glad we passed that in house today. Hopefully the senate will take that out. This is something we have to d we have to do. Make sure we are continuing to looking at the intent. The republican position has continued to be no special treatment under the law.
People say thank you for what you are doing. I feel guilty. I can never do for this country what it has done for me. I do not know where i would be of my parents have not come to america. I doubt whether i would be in a place like this. Perhaps i would be like this. Wrong with being a bar tender. I believe there are millions of people that want that for their children and grandchildren in america. Our job is to make it easier for them to do that. And government can play a role. The governor is an example of what government can do in the state. I pray god will give me an opportunity to be part of that in washington d. C. Simons island, and yesterday all of the schools were closed, the bridges we were told to stay off the bridges, and todays brunswick news, they had pictures of sanders going over the bridges on checkle island.
