The $90 million action film “The Rescue,” one of the most expensive movies to ever come out of China, is finally making its American bow this week nearly a year after it was originally set to open.
The thriller, starring Eddie Peng, proved to be something of a canary in a coalmine for a now corona-ravaged global film industry. It was all set for an American run, including several Houston-area theaters, on Jan. 24. But then COVID-19 swept across China like a wildfire, forcing theaters to shutter and the scrapping of distributor CMC’s plans for a global release.
