With isolated storms predicted to begin this month and another busy storm season on the horizon, town officials are urging residents and business owners to be prepared to evacuate if necessary.
“Warmer sub-tropical water temperatures could mean a fuel for hurricanes to form and with bigger power,” weatherman James Weiland of WPTV-Channel 5 told a virtual town seminar on hurricane preparedness, which was held Thursday over Zoom.
The 2021 hurricane season does not officially begin until June, he said.
Weiland said the National Hurricane Center had considered moving the start of hurricane season to May 15, but instead it will begin issuing regular storm forecasts for the Atlantic basin beginning Saturday.

Fire-Rescue Chief Darrel Donatto said 240 vaccines, which included leftovers from the last batch, were administered. Folks signed up two day ago, so they were happy, he said, adding that because the town reached out to folks on the wait list, not a lot of people showed up at the South Fire Station vaccination site who did not have appointments.
