and we re back with live coverage, our continuing live coverage of the rescue of the miners in chile. you re watching tape of florencio avalos, the first miner to step out of the rescue capsule, hugging his wife, his 8-year-old son byron was at the site to welcome him. his son was overwhelmed with emotion, seeing his father step out of that capsule. the capsule is on its way back to the bottom of the mine carrying a second rescuer to the bottom of the mine. that is the capsule enter iing.
coming from the camera on the capsule is actually a very small area, and it s very warm down there, much warmer down there and on top. they have to contend with the light for the first time, the change in temperature and pressure. jenna: we are seeing the video as the rescue capsule is trying to head back up. brand-new video from underground. we are so far away. moments ago we were talking about everyone feels so connected to this story and you re right there seeing a miracle happen. what is that like? reporter: you know, there is a loss for words. most of us in this industry, losing words is something that doesn t happen very often. it puts the smile on my face every time you see it. you want to root for it and there is no reason why you shouldn t be able to. to be able to tell a good story, maybe that is one reason the world has been pulled together by this. so many things have happened over the eight or nine years,
the miners, we understand it s going to be 30% to 40% oxygen mix. it s an enclosed, claustrophobic space, they don t want the miners to get dizzy or faint on the way up. why is that? they believe they need the full cooperation of each miner as they come up. we know that capsle is equipped with a wide angle camera so the rescuers can see how each miner is reacting. but the miner needs to be alert, aware and talking through this video conferencing system, telling them how they re riding up. also explaining if they re getting panic symptoms, that is the importance of that oxygen that is also being put on board there so that the miners don t run the risk of fainting. once again, it looks like manuel gonzalez is still making some adjustments to the gear inside that rescue capsule.
