Senator Klobuchar Encourages Visits To Duluth

By Dave Strandberg Jun 3, 2021 | 4:23 AM DULUTH, MN (CBS-3) – U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar joined Mayor Emily Larson Wednesday to stress that Duluth is open for business and are encouraging everyone to make their way to the Twin Ports this summer. Visit Duluth officials say tourism tax collections from April of this year were up 600% from April of 2020. This huge spike is due largely in part to hotels and restaurants reopening after operating at limited capacity or closing their doors during the pandemic. Senator Klobuchar says there’s a lot of work being done in Washington D.C. to help the tourism industry as a whole and adds that funding from the hospitality piece of the Rescue America Act is making its way to the Twin Ports.

Last March, I got an extra $1,400 check from the IRS money I shouldn’t have received. I had already received an economic impact payment earlier in the month from my parents because they claimed me as a dependent on their 2019 return and filed their 2020 taxes a few months after I did. It seems the IRS failed to catch that, and now I am stuck holding an extra $1,400 that doesn’t belong to me.

1 9 Trillion Rescue America Act COVID Stimulus Package Passes

Don t like to read? The House of Representatives passed the final version of the third stimulus package since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic on March 10, 2021. The Rescue America bill is expected to be signed by President Joe Biden, and $1,400 checks will be sent out shortly thereafter to most Americans. Democrats would like the bill to be signed by Sunday, March 14, since the current unemployment enhancement and other assistance programs expire. Since the infrastructure is in place, the distribution of stimulus funds will likely happen quickly. However, since the IRS is currently dealing with incoming tax returns, there might be a delay, although it is unclear if that will be a factor.
