FLINT, MI Mayor Sheldon Neeley is deploying city workers to pick up uncollected curbside yard waste and sending Flint’s trash hauler the bill.
The city announced Friday, May 14, that work crews will spend the next three days collecting the grass clippings, leaves, and branches that Republic Services of Flint has left behind because the company is struggling to find enough drivers to handle the job.
“We will not sit idly by while compost sits in our streets,” Neeley said in a statement released by the city. “I am thankful to our workers who are willing to step up and take on overtime to provide this service to residents of the city of Flint.”
The city of Flint's waste hauler says a truck driver shortage has caused delays in yard waste pickups in Flint and is asking residents to leave materials at the curb until it is able to collect it.
